Buyer's guide
What a business website actually costs to build and to keep running — including the recurring charges most quotes leave out. Figures are published market estimates, with sources at the end.
Researched 2 August 2026
There is no single price for “a website”. The figures below are the ranges published by Indian agencies and industry guides in 2026. Treat them as a sanity check on quotes you receive, not as a fixed rate card.
| Type | Typical range | What that usually means |
|---|---|---|
| Landing page or single-page site | ₹5,000 – ₹20,000 | One page, contact form, minimal content. Often template-based. |
| Basic business website (5–10 pages) | ₹10,000 – ₹25,000 | Template or lightly customised design, standard pages, basic SEO. |
| Small business website (custom) | ₹25,000 – ₹60,000 | What most small businesses actually spend on a first custom site. |
| Growth / lead-generation website | ₹50,000 – ₹1,50,000 | More pages, blog, analytics, schema, conversion sections. |
| E-commerce (50–100 products) | ₹35,000 – ₹1,00,000 | Catalogue, cart, payment gateway, order handling. |
| Advanced / custom platform | ₹1,50,000 – ₹5,00,000+ | CMS, bookings, integrations, custom functionality, ongoing scope. |
Most small businesses in India spend between ₹25,000 and ₹60,000 on their first custom website. Below roughly ₹15,000 you are almost always buying a template with your content placed into it, which is a reasonable choice as long as you know that is what you are buying.
Two quotes for “a business website” can differ by five times because they are quietly describing different products. These are the variables that matter.
The single biggest driver. A five-page site and a fifty-page site differ in content production and testing far more than in design work.
A theme customised with your colours costs a fraction of a design built around your content. Both are legitimate; they are not the same product.
Bookings, payments, logins, CRM sync and multi-language each add build and testing time, and each adds something that can break later.
Copywriting, photography and product data are frequently excluded from quotes. If you are writing it yourself, budget your own time.
Sitemaps, structured data, Search Console and analytics configuration are cheap during the build and expensive to retrofit.
Freelancers typically quote ₹10,000–₹80,000 for small business sites; agencies ₹20,000 upwards, with more process and more continuity.
This is where most website budgets go wrong. The build is a one-time cost; the domain, hosting, email and maintenance are not. Renewal pricing is also routinely higher than the first-year offer used to win the sale.
| Type | Per year | What that usually means |
|---|---|---|
| Domain (.com or .in) | ₹700 – ₹1,500 per year | Renewal price, which is usually higher than the first-year offer. |
| Shared hosting | ₹3,500 – ₹9,500 per year | At renewal. Promotional first-year pricing is far lower. |
| Business email (per mailbox) | ₹1,200 – ₹3,300 per year | Google Workspace, depending on plan and purchase channel. |
| Maintenance / AMC | ₹8,000 – ₹1,00,000+ per year | Wide range. Around ₹25,000 per year is a common mid-point. |
A site quoted at ₹30,000 with hosting and email billed separately can cost ₹40,000 or more across the first year. Ask for the two-year total before comparing quotes.
Website design and development are digital services in India and attract 18% GST. A website quoted at ₹50,000 costs ₹59,000 once tax is added.
Quotes are inconsistent about this — some are inclusive, some are not, and the difference is large enough to change which supplier looks cheaper. Confirm it in writing before you compare.
The answers matter more than the headline number. Any supplier worth hiring will answer all ten without hesitating.
A guide that quotes everyone else's prices and hides its own is not much of a guide. Amalthea Labs publishes package pricing, and each package covers the first year of domain, hosting, SSL and a Google Workspace mailbox — so the year-one total is the figure shown.
Prices exclude GST at 18%.
| Package | Year one, all inclusive | Year two onward |
|---|---|---|
| Launch Website | ₹30,000 | ₹8,000 |
| Growth Website | ₹60,000 | ₹8,000 |
| Scale Website | ₹1,50,000 | ₹8,000 |
Published estimates put a landing page at ₹5,000 to ₹20,000, a basic business website at ₹10,000 to ₹25,000, and a custom small-business website at ₹25,000 to ₹60,000. E-commerce sites with 50 to 100 products typically run ₹35,000 to ₹1,00,000, and advanced platforms with bookings, integrations or custom functionality start around ₹1,50,000. The range is wide because page count, custom design and functionality affect the build far more than the label on the package does.
Yes. Website design and development are digital services and attract 18% GST. A website quoted at ₹50,000 therefore costs ₹59,000 including tax. Always confirm whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of GST before comparing it with another.
Domain renewal is typically ₹700 to ₹1,500 a year, shared hosting ₹3,500 to ₹9,500 a year at renewal, and each Google Workspace mailbox ₹1,200 to ₹3,300 a year. An optional maintenance contract adds anywhere from ₹8,000 to over ₹1,00,000 a year depending on how much work it covers. Ask for the year-two figure, not only the launch price.
Usually because they are not the same brief. One quote may assume a template, client-supplied content and no hosting, while another includes custom design, copywriting, first-year hosting and analytics setup. Comparing totals without comparing inclusions is the most common reason a cheap quote becomes expensive later.
Not necessarily. A well-built five-page site is the right answer for many businesses. The risk is not the price but the exclusions: sites built without analytics, without a sitemap, on hosting you do not control, or with a domain registered in the agency's name cost far more to fix than they saved.
